Sadly, this is not about one voice or one man, but about the bigger picture and the future.
For too long, men in power have been allowed to take advantage of their position, creating networks and environments that facilitate the most hideous crimes, with no repercussions except for their victims. Many of us have lived in silence, fearing for our safety and dreading that our abuse may become public and skew the way we are seen.
Because that is the way our society has been taught to think. That we as women wanted this, that we deserved this.
So we buried our stories, because even the police were not there to protect us. The very people and institutions meant to keep us safe, failed us.
Before we even had the chance to live, our future was taken from us.
This is not justice. There is no accountability.
But this is about more than him. It is about starting to make a change for our children, so that power can no longer protect abuse, and silence is no longer forced upon the victims.
